June 30Art Brooks Celebrates 20 Years with ABA

July 1, 2009 marks the 20th Anniversary of Art Brooks serving the Arizona Broadcasters Association as President/CEO. During his 37-year career in broadcasting, Art has led us through a tremendous evolution of the industry, marked by significant changes and progress. Art took the helm from Ken Heady in 1989, and with his experience and dedication has developed the Arizona Broadcasters Association into a leading force in Arizona's radio and television industry.

"I could fill a small book on my thoughts of my 20 years with the ABA", said Brooks. "At the top of the list is what a great honor and blessing it is to be leading the Arizona free over-the-air broadcast industry along with our great board of directors and staff." When asked to reflect on some special highlights, Brooks said, "I am most proud of

• Establishment of the Hall of Fame
• Past president of NASBA, National Alliance of State Broadcasters Associations
• Creation of AZ Amber Alert
• Crystal Darkness state-wide simulcast
• Creating the ABA Foundation (if we build it the donations will come - it's built)
• Interaction with NAB, Congress and state legislature
• Expansion of office to new space and staff from one to a mighty two
• Increased community involvement and broadcasters presence through many civic organizations
• An effective DTV transition program

Thank you for the opportunity to serve the Arizona Broadcasters Association for the past 20 years and the excitement and anticipation for what is to come for our great industry and state we love so very much!"

The ABA's goal is to educate, protect and serve our members and the community. Art's hard work, leadership and community involvement has strengthened the ABA's ability to protect our members from unfair legislation, provide them with the tools and training they need to be relevant, and provided the essential partnerships as the industry moves into this digital era. Art continues to find new and effective practices for protecting free over-the-air radio and television, while serving the important and growing needs of the industry. The board of directors and staff wish to congratulate Art for his strength and leadership for 20 years of exceptional service to the Arizona Broadcasters Association.
