As we recover from these uneasy and unpredictable business times, the Arizona Broadcasters Association continues to work hard on your behalf to help you save money in every way we can as your trade association. Our board and staff have re-focused the organization through a strategic plan to equip us to better serve you. The ABA's priorities are:
- Helping members increase revenue: Working with our radio and television station members to generate additional revenue through benefits such as high-caliber on-demand sales training available free to members. We will feature "live" Political Advertising seminars this January, to update you on the most current information, knowing this will be an added revenue stream.
- Helping member's decrease costs: Continually researching ways to help cut costs through benefits like our FREE legal hotline and FCC Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP). 2010 will be a major inspection year as your 3-year moratoriums expire from 2007.
Government relations
The ABA continues to represent our members with government relations advocacy in Washington, D.C. as well as the Arizona Legislature. In 2009 we filed the following petitions & arguments on your behalf to the FCC & Congress: In the Matter of Implementation of Short-Term Analog Flash & Emergency Readiness Act establishing a DTV Transition Analog Night; Signed a Resolution of the Fifty State broadcasters Associations in Opposition to the new Performance Tax; "White Paper on Proposed First Ever, "Performance Fee, Tax, Levy on Local Radio Stations setting forth our opposition to such legislation; In the Matter of Assessment and Collection of Regulatory Fees for Fiscal Year 2009 urging the FCC to reduce the annual fees and/or processing fees; Joined on Letter of 50 State Broadcast Associations in Opposition to Forfeiture Against EAS LP-1 Station KWWE(FM), San Clemente, CA; Joint Comments to OMB in Opposition to the FCC's newly Revised FCC Form 323; Continued to help our TV members through the maze of issues with the DTV transition and a multitude of other issues of importance to you and your business today and in the future.
Revenue-producing sales training
We can help you save on travel and other expenses related to training as the ABA has renewed its investment into the latest sales training for your staff that is intended to deliver you a high caliber training methodology by the industry's top professionals. This on-demand training is now available to our member stations from Localbroadcastsales.com and will continue into 2010. In addition to the up-to-date on-line training there will be live webinar opportunities throughout the year, providing the latest sales techniques. The training exercises have been tailored to assist your staff whether new or experienced gain the knowledge needed to maximize your sales effort in this tough economic environment. Managers will be able to track their sales teams comprehension through training evaluations completed at the end of each exercise. Again, this is FREE to ABA members.
Online community
The ABA website was re-designed in 2009 to provide you the latest information on FCC, Congressional and state legislative issues. The ABA website is a one-stop resource for industry pertinent forms, links and announcements. We now have our own job bank for our members use, in addition to the National Career Page and through our membership directory, your station contact information and link to your websites are available.
The ABA has been serving Arizona's radio and television stations since 1952, growing stronger and improving our service to you every year to help you remain profitable and significant. We want you to know that especially in these challenging times, your trade association is with you every step of the way and helping you be as successful as possible.
